You said "government intervention is necessary to keep society on track". "On track" is very subjective. Some want society to be equal in every way such as income, opportunity, happiness. This requires a tremendous amount of government force into people's lives. Others, including me, think that liberty (the freedom to do what you want as long as you don't trample on others freedom) is tremendously more important than equality of life.Many liberals will give away liberty to force equality.

Alright, bringideason! Some factual information never hurts anyone. Even under a recession, capitalist nations fare better - the water and electricity still flow, the supermarkets are well stocked, and nobody goes to jail for talking against the government. And you can still expect that some mortgages will default.I am sure that the slaves would be thrilled with the improvement in the lives of millions.PS - Johann Norberg's book is full of examples like the one you provided.

Here's a task for you that will show you the difference economic freedom makes. This is something lGnossos ignores.Look at this chart that lists countries based on their economic freedom.w .heritage. org/ research/ features/ index/countries. cfmClick on the top 3 and look at per capita GDP #'s on the right side. Honk Kong's is $34,833.Look at the bottom 3 starting w/Cuba. Zimbabwe's is $2000 per capita w/80% unemployment. This list clearly makes the case for capitalism.

Erren1234 - There is a whole great nation founded on the concept of Liberty. They even have a beautiful statue that millions of tourists pay good money to visit. If you do serious research, you will find that it's not such a wishy-washy term. You can start by considering that you can do anything so long as you do not jeopardize the rights of others (their real rights; not the imaginary rights in the minds of people like IGnossos, who cares more about equality).
