Although I like your interpretation of the lyrics I don't think that's what she is describing at all. She is just describing the downfall of someone denying an addiction to a heaven-like feeling through heavier drug use. The "maybe that's a lie"-part is added after she is going for the stuff in her veins. The lyrics have a story-motion-development.

It's not a habit. it's cool. i feel alive. if you don't have it you're on the other side. i'm not an addict. maybe that's a lie."this song is about more than drugs. it compares life to drugs. we are all adicted to the cultural identities and perceptions. we've all trained our subconcious minds with things most people don't often consider as "addictive habits". "that" refers to the whole chorus,not just the preceding line.
