Thank you for posting. I thought Skinner is more radical behaviourist but actually his posture and tone of voices more silent and humanitarian. I like this film very much.

PromnetheansFire, this may seem like bs to you since you don't know what being explained here. This experiment isnt focused on testing pidgeons, its mainly an example to represent human behavior based on Skinner's studies.

i knew it. i knew there was no free will. the mere typing of this sentence is due to impulses from my emotions that were themselves brought about through impulses produced by watching this video, the temperature in the room, and my own existing mental state and assumptions and other factors.

see the word "cause" is something that has to be used carefully. we don't really know what causes "what" yet we can control behavior. if a stimulus or stimuli is represented it may 'elicit' a response. all of us react in ways without thinking first. and thinking in itself is a behavior.
tubethis1985 (June 26, 2008 at 8:53 am)
however, if a human is NOT psychologically starved, the whole world of behaviorism is torn apart, because people who are "self-actualized" or "awake" or "aware" or "whatever-you-call-it" KNOW themselves enough to understand the causes of their behaviors and in knowing this, they are able to choose that behavior which is most ideal for them, regardless of their previous psychological-behavioral-habit.

well, yeah, but this theory only applies to humans when you're in the lowest level of maslow's heirarchy of needs (you know what i mean by this, psych majors).if you starve a human psychologically (as depicted in the gambling scenario at 2:09), then, yes, you can kill his/her free will and control his/her actions just as was done with the pigeon.
