What you're refering as the "ride of the Valkyries" is a recuring theme (motif) of the ring cycle. So, it is most definitely part of it!

The melody he sings at 2:00 in this video, as performed by a brass section lol, became my favorite "part of Ride of the Valkyries" despite it not being part of it.

I heard an instrumental performance of Ride of the Valkyries that segued into this piece where this video reads 1:40. Very strange :S

Salminen portrays by voice, facial expression, body language and sheer physical presence the essence of what Hagen is: an extremely competent and dangerous knight who knows exactly what must be done and how to do it.

I've heard him yesterday live on the Wagner Festival in Budapest, and he was frightening. I'm totally in love with Hagen. This black, velvety voice...

And an excellent Fasolt, an excellent Fafner, an excellent anything he sings!

My L.P.,Tape, and CD collection actually. Otto von Rohr died in 1984 and Frick died in 1994-you will look in vain for anything but snippets of their Hagen on VHS or DVD. I go to the opera when I am sure that I can avoid lunatic producers and ill-trained, musically illiterate conductors-quite hard to do these days. |
