Actually, his reasons for leaving were more complex than that. If ever you come across Depeche Mode's biography that was released a few years ago, you would find that he never fit in when he was in the group and complained about not being respected.

never understood why alan says he left dm becasue he had no writing time and because of dms style of music. two minute warning and landscape is chaning are a diservice to construction time again. very very bad attempt to write and brand it dm. good riddance. bought the first recoil album and returned it the same day 15 years ago.crappy instrumental music...get a permanant singer and maybe just maybe. he should not try to write and be dark like gore....not happening.
