People saying that he "played it too fast" don't know what they're talking about. Nobody has any idea how fast they would play it if they had Richter's technique, or Richter's profound and well-seasoned understanding of piano literature. He probably knows more about this piece than any of us do, so why are we questioning his interpretational motives? Great music can be played in various ways. If there was a "right tempo" or a "right way" to play this piece then it would be a shitty piece.

I disagree. This etude was written to express Chopin's mourning for his homeland, Poland, which was invaded during the war. The marking "Appassionato" indicates during the main theme that the music should be played deeply and passionately.Disregarding both of my comments, I enjoyed the interpretation, despite the fact that I prefer it more expressively and melodically intact.
