True, asbestos cement sidewalls are particularly long-lasting and, left in good condition, they're not friable. However, I've seen some shingles of this stuff that's all stained and cracked...I'd be a little concerned then.

The housing boom in the 50's & 60's led to sturdy houses which many still stand today. And if you happen to purchase one of those houses from the 60's, fear not the asbestos. The aluminum electrical wiring in the walls will kill you long before the asbestos. And if the wiring holds up, the fuse panel will burn the house down.

weird this guy sounds like sean connery trying to speak without a scottish accent, does anyone agree that the narrator sounds like he's hiding some kind of a lilt? listen to how he says "stone."

Actually, asbestos probably saved far more lives than it took, and outside the asbestos mining and manufacturing industries, the numbers of people hurt by asbestos is practically zero.On the other hand, ALL of the miners are dead. When the stuff is airborn, it's bad. But when it's not, it was almost miraculous (and still used for brakepads).

Actually, asbestos sealed in cement as an EXTERIOR wall or ceiling presents no danger, except to those that have to cut or make it, and they would face no dangers with appropriate clothing and respirators.Of coure, in the 50s they didn't do any of that.
